PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS
Program Overview
The Home Run internship program offers 8-week paid summer internships for high school students in the Washington Unified School District (WUSD) in West Sacramento. Interns can work up to 40 hours per week and are paid the California Minimum Wage by the City of West Sacramento.
Interns receive training before and during the internship, and they can earn college credit through Sacramento City College. Training takes place during work hours, so interns will not be available for work for up to two hours each week.
Internship Eligibility Requirements
Interns must be 16 years old by the first day of the internship. River City High School students must have completed at least one course in one of WUSD’s Career Technical Education Pathways. View qualifying courses here. Yolo High School and Washington Middle College students must have a recommendation form filled out by a teacher or counselor and emailed to wshomerun@cityofwestsacramento.org or submitted online. All participants must also attend one online informational session about the internships offered by the Home Run team.
Internship Supervisor Responsibilities
An internship is meant to be a learning experience, so supervising an intern involves teaching, mentoring and serving as a role model. In addition, intern supervisors should be prepared to:

Interview intern candidates.

Approve time sheets.

Identify intern learning goals and develop a work plan.

Work closely with the Home Run team and participate in internship program events.
It is a great way to mentor people and help push them to learn jobs that they never thought were available.
